On Friday 3rd December 2021, the Absolventenfest/graduation ceremony of the TUM Department of Informatics took place. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, it happened in a hybrid format with a couple of selected prize winners, speakers, and a great band on location, and most of the graduates together with their family and friends joining in virtually.
Dr. Katharina Wollenberg gave the laudation for the winner of the SAP Student Award, an award given for an excellent and innovative master thesis in the field of informatics. 2021’s awardee was Giulia Marchesi with her thesis “Semantic SLAM: Combining SLAM Systems and Neural Networks for Improved Surrounding Fusion in AR Applications“. In her thesis, she developed an innovative concept to create more realistic augmented reality applications by combining machine learning and algorithms for localization and mapping. She furthermore optimized the algorithm for use on mobile devices.
We congratulate Guilia on this great and inspiring work!
