The research activities of Prof. Adams focus on the development of numerical methods and the modeling and simulation of transitional and turbulent flows, fluid-structure interaction, microfluidics, and multi-phase flows. They also include experimental and numerical work in vehicle and aircraft aerodynamics and high-speed aerodynamics.

After completing his undergraduate education in Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Stuttgart, and receiving a doctorate in engineering from TUM (1993), Prof. Adams was awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship of Stanford University and the NASA Ames Research Center. In 1999, Prof. Adams received his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) with ETH Zürich, where he continued his career as Senior Lecturer until 2002. He subsequently accepted the offer to join the faculty of TU Dresden as Full Professor of Fluid Mechanics and Magneto-fluid Dynamics. Since 2004, Prof. Adams has been Full Professor at the Chair of Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics at TUM. He is speaker of the DFG SFB/TRR 40. He authored a monography on Large-Eddy Simulation and serves as Executive Editor of J. Comput. Phys.
