Marcus Giglmaier
Marcus Giglmaier studied mechanical engineering at the TU Munich from 2003 to 2008 and completed his PhD at the Chair of Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics between 2009 and 2013 on new methods for nanoparticle generation in transonic, reactive flows.
During his postdoctoral studies at the Chair of Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, he planned and coordinated the construction, installation and commissioning of a supersonic wind tunnel. In parallel, he established and still leads a research group involved in experimental and numerical investigations in the field of supersonic flows, cavitation phenomena, atomization of fluids, reactive flows, condensation effects and particle growth.
In 2018, Marcus Giglmaier joined Oerlikon AM GmbH to establish the jointly operated TUM-Oerlikon-Advanced Manufacturing Institute in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich. The institute focuses on fundamental research along the entire value chain of metallic additive manufacturing. In 2021, Marcus Giglmaier assumed the role of 'Lead: Innovation and New Technologies' in the parent company Oerlikon Surface Solutions, where he has since ensured the content networking of Oerlikon Group Research. In 2022, he was appointed Managing Director of Oerlikon AM Europe GmbH and heads the new research site in Garching.
