From October to December 2025, Moritz Wittemer, a member of the TUM-Oerlikon Advanced Manufacturing Institute, spent time as a Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA. During his stay, he collaborated with David Deisenroth on the directionally resolved laser reflectance during laser-based powder bed fusion of metals. This research is part of the project In-situ Absorbance Measurement for High Throughput Process Window Identification in PBF-LB/M (InsighT) (Link), which has been funded by the TUM-Oerlikon Advanced Manufacturing Institute since 2022. We want to thank David Deisenroth, and the entire NIST team for this insightful collaboration and are looking forward to unveiling the discoveries and innovations hidden in the data we produce!
